Applications should only be submitted to Essex County Council for:
children resident* in Essex transferring from primary to secondary school**; or
children resident* in Essex starting primary education for the first time ***
*You live in the area served by Essex County Council if your council tax is payable to one of the following local councils: Basildon, Braintree, Brentwood, Castle Point, Chelmsford, Colchester, Epping Forest, Harlow, Maldon, Rochford, Tendring or Uttlesford.
** Parents of children who are due start secondary school (Year 7) in September 2016 can apply online from 1 September 2015 until the closing date 31 October 2015. Please note you cannot make an online application for your child's secondary school place, as the closing date has now passed. You will need to complete a paper application form which you can access from this link 'Secondary 2016 Application Form'
*** Parents of children born during the period 1 September 2011 to 31 August 2012 can apply online (for a Reception place for September 2016 onwards) from 9 November 2015 until the closing date 15 January 2016. Please note you cannot make an online application for your child's primary school place, as the closing date has now passed. You will need to complete a paper application form which you can access from this link 'Primary 2016 Application Form'
Making your application for schools
We highly recommend you use all your preferences to give yourself maximum opportunity to be considered for a place at a school you want. You can apply for 6 schools for secondary applications and for primary applications you can apply for 4 schools.
Applying for more than one school does not in any way reduce your chances of being offered your highest preference, so please aim to use all your preferences.
Please note: A child's home is the permanent address at which he or she lives and is ordinarily resident. This is generally the address of the parent/carer. It is vital the correct home address details are given when you apply, as any place offered on the basis of false information may be withdrawn.
We advise that you read and understand the information published about secondary and primary school admissions on our website www.essex.gov.uk/admissions prior to submitting your application.
If you submit an application and then you move house you MUST tell us immediately by email or letter. You should provide proof of exchange of contracts if you have purchased your new home, or tenancy agreement if you are renting. Please do not just change your address on your online application without letting us know by email or letter as well.
Please make sure you read and understand the Education Transport Policy information on the website www.essex.gov.uk/schooltransport if entitlement to school transport is important to you. School priority admission (catchment) areas are not relevant to transport eligibility. Transport is generally only provided to the nearest available school where the distance criteria is met. It is vital you carefully consider the transport implications before you make your application for a school place. Further information is available in the 'Secondary Education in Essex' and 'Primary Education in Essex' booklets on the website www.essex.gov.uk/admissions.
Offer of school places
Secondary school offers will be sent by email and letter on 1 March 2016. You can log in to see the school offered from midnight.
Primary school offers will be sent by email and letter on 18 April 2016. You can log in to see the school offered from midnight.
Changing your email address before offer day
You can change your email address up to 23:59 on 29 February 2016 for secondary admissions, and 17 April 2016 for primary admissions. Log in using your old (existing) email address and the password you chose. Select 'Change My Login Details' at the top of the page and change your email address. Select 'Save'.
